| Pokémon of the Day: Chansey
HP: 703 Ice Beam, Softboiled, Minimize, Seismic Toss When you think of Chansey, many of you think of HP. But there is more to Nurse Joy’s trusty companion. It has a Max Special of 308. So to utilise this stat to its full potential, Ice Beam is used. Ice is possibly the second strongest type with the ability to freeze opponents. Ice Beam also has reasonably good PP, so it lasts long enough. Although you may be thinking, “Yeah, it’s got good Special, but its Attack, Speed and Defense aren’t very good.” Hold on, I was just getting there. First, Speed really does not matter, because if Chansey’s speed was 198 or 228 it would make no difference. On to Attack. Although Chansey learns Double-Edge, it would be rather stupid to teach it to her. 108 really is pretty bad, so Seismic Toss is used. At Level 100, this gives 100 damage each go, simple. Now, Defense. Although Reflect is the best TM that increases defense, Minimize is the better option. With Softboiled, the fourth move, it makes a great Combination. First Minimize until there is no effect. This makes it very hard for the enemy to hit you. Watch out, though, a Mega Kick will kill any Chansey in one go, because of

Chansey’s weak attack and weakness to Fighting. Anyway, once you’ve minimized, Softboil all the damage you’ve received. Now just pummel them with Ice Beam and Seismic Toss, and your Chansey will be extremely powerful . (Dewgong)
Move of the Day: Softboiled- PP: 10 “Recovers half of Pokémon’s HP.” It works just like Recover but with

a few alterations. It has half the PP, which is a shame, but who
needs 20? 10 will last you a Link Cable battle. Softboiled not only
recovers damage during battle but it recovers damage outside of battle! Ľ
of Chansey’s HP can be given to another Pokemon if they are slightly
injured. Another difference is to who learns it. Recover is learned
naturally by Staryu/Starmie, Mewtwo and Abra/Kadabra/Alakazam. Softboiled
can only be taught to Chansey and, of course, Mew.
Unused Pokémon of the Day: Dewgong HP: 383 Blizzard, Surf, Double Team, Rest One of the few part Ice Pokemon, Dewgong is extremely underused. It has great HP, good Special and OK Defense. A good combo would be to start off by Double Teaming several times, and recovering all the damage done while D-Teaming with Rest. So, although you’re asleep, your opponent will have trouble hitting you. Once you’ve woken up fire away with Surf and Blizzard. If you receive any major damage, Rest again. Dewgong has the HP, special and defense not to get killed in one go most of the time. As you can see, Dewgong really isn’t that bad and can be very annoying with the Double-Team/Rest combo.
