Pokémon Daily Issue 9

Pokémon of the Day: Starmie

HP: 323
ATTACK: 248
DEFENSE: 268
SPEED: 328
SPECIAL: 298

Recover, Psychic, Blizzard, Thunderbolt

Although Starmie is part water, she really does not need a water move. The reason being that Starmie has the ability to learn, possibly, the best 4 moves in the game. This makes here one of the most versatile Pokémon there is. Starmie has a max special of 298, meaning she can use the 3 attacking moves well. Starmie’s OK defense (268) combined with her good special mean that only moves like Thunder/Thunderbolt or Solar Beam (ignoring Horn Drill/Fissure/Guillotine) are going to defeat here in one go. If Starmie manages to survive one of these attacks then Recover can fix some of the damage done. With her 3 attacking moves Starmie can go through everything without an “It’s not very effective…” Also, with its incredible speed it will kill many types in one go. Other good things about Starmie include its part Psychic type making it a potential Psychic killer. Finally, with Thunderbolt it is good against water, which is partly its own type.

Move of the Day: Double Team- PP: 15 “Increases Pokémon’s evading abilities.

Although most commonly used with electric Pokémon, Double Team can be used by just about anyone. The most common users of it include Scyther, Electabuzz, Magneton and Sandslash. After using it to the max it will make it near impossible for your opponent to even touch you. Of course, Double Team’s weakness is Swift. Not really a major problem, with Swift not being particularly devastating. Double Team has to be one of the most annoying moves there is. So I strongly advise you having it on your team at least once.

Unused Pokémon of the Day: Scyther

HP: 343
ATTACK: 318
DEFENSE: 258
SPEED: 308
SPECIAL: 208

Wing Attack, Double Team, Sword’s Dance, Slash

Probably the best Bug Pokémon alongside Pinsir, I believe Scyther is slightly underused. If you are planning on putting one in your team, make sure you catch it in Pokémon Yellow, allowing it to learn Wing Attack at Level 52. Although Slash is not affected by Sword’s Dance it is a very good attack. Double Team will protect him while he’s Sword’s Dancing. Sword’s Dance will make Wing Attack pretty powerful, with Scyther having high attack and being part Flying. One last thing; watch out for Rock Slide. Scyther has a 4X weakness to Rock.
